Working offline and syncing
Keep serving when the network drops, check queued sales, and resolve catalogue or stock differences after they sync.
Updated 13 September 2026
Swipee can keep an eligible sale safely on the till when the connection drops, then submit it when service returns. The sale keeps the time it actually happened, not the later sync time.
What works offline
- Building a basket from the cached item library
- Cash sales and other payment methods allowed by the shop's current offline policy
- Barcode scanning against items already on the device
- Viewing cached items and recent transactions
Work that needs fresh server data — signing in for the first time, cash-out, live dashboard reports, and most management changes — needs a connection.
Check the queue
Queued sales show whether they are waiting, being sent, synced, failed, or too old to submit automatically. Swipee retries automatically when the connection returns; use the manual retry only when a failed row asks for it.
At the end of the day:
- 1Put the phone on a good Wi-Fi or mobile connection.
- 2Open the queued-sales notice and let Swipee finish sending.
- 3Open Transactions and refresh.
- 4Check the dashboard's transaction count matches the till.
Do not record the same sale again
If the screen timed out, check the queue and transaction history before starting over. Each queued sale has its own identity, so a retry returns the original transaction instead of recording it twice.
What Needs Checking means
An offline sale may reach the server after the catalogue changed. Swipee records the sale — the customer already paid — and adds a row under Settings → Needs Checking for problems such as:
- the till sold more than the shelf count held,
- an item or pack was archived or removed,
- the till and current catalogue disagree on the amount.
Open the row, count or correct the shelf if needed, then choose I have checked this. That button closes the warning; it does not change stock for you.
Before uninstalling or resetting a phone
Unsynced sales exist only on that device. Confirm the queue is empty on a good connection before uninstalling Swipee, clearing its data, factory-resetting the phone, or handing it to somebody else.
Make syncing more reliable
- Turn off battery optimisation for Swipee on Android.
- Give the till a reliable sync window at opening and closing.
- Keep each physical till paired as its own device.
- If a row repeatedly fails, keep its error message and contact support.
