Privacy Policy
Last updated 21 August 2026
This policy explains how Swipee Technologies (“Swipee”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Swipee Android app, the owner dashboard, and swipeeup.store. Swipee is a point-of-sale and inventory product for merchants. It is currently in a live pilot in Zimbabwe.
Who this applies to
This policy covers merchants and their staff who create a Swipee account, and visitors to our website. If you record a customer on a till, you are the controller of that customer record. Swipee stores it on your behalf so the till and dashboard can show it.
Information we collect
Account and business
- Name, email, phone number, password (stored as a one-way hash), business name, and country
- Store names, till login codes, and device labels you set up
- Support messages you send through the contact form or in-app support
Trading records you create
- Sales, payment method selected, amounts, currencies (USD and ZiG), discounts, and taxes
- Items, categories, barcodes, SKUs, stock levels, batches, and expiry dates
- Customer names and contact details you choose to save
- Receipts and cash-out or withdrawal requests you start in the app
Device and diagnostics
- App version, Android version, and crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
- Anonymous product analytics (Firebase Analytics) with advertising-ID collection turned off
- IP address and standard server logs needed to operate the API
Website cookies
Necessary cookies keep you signed in on the dashboard. Performance, personalisation, and analytics cookies are optional. You can change that choice from the cookie banner.
What we do not collect
- Full card numbers. Card flows keep at most the card type and last four digits.
- Mobile-money PINs, one-time codes after they expire, or your password in recoverable form.
- Precise location, microphone audio, or advertising identifiers.
How we use information
- To run your till, inventory, receipts, and owner dashboard
- To sign you in, keep the session secure, and show security activity
- To diagnose crashes and improve reliability during the pilot
- To answer support requests
- To tell pilot merchants about material product changes
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your trading data to advertise third-party products to you.
Payments in the current pilot
Cash sales, items, stock, and reporting are live. Card tap/insert/swipe and mobile-money methods currently record the sale in Swipee so stock and books stay correct. They do not move money on Visa, Mastercard, ZimSwitch, EcoCash, or another licensed rail unless we have told you that rail is switched on for your account. See what works today.
Legal bases
We process account and trading data to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract). We process crash and security logs as a legitimate interest in keeping the product safe. Where a cookie is not strictly necessary, we ask for consent.
Sharing
We share information only with:
- Infrastructure providers that host the API, database, and website (currently including Railway and Vercel)
- Firebase (Google) for crash reporting and product analytics, with advertising ID collection disabled
- Licensed payment partners, if and when a live rail is enabled for your account, and only the data that rail requires
- Authorities when the law requires it
Storage and security
Traffic uses HTTPS. The Android app stores session tokens in EncryptedSharedPreferences and encrypts the on-device database with SQLCipher. Access to merchant data on the server is scoped to the signed-in account. We retain trading records for as long as the account is active so you can run reports. You can ask us to export or delete your account.
Your choices
- Correct account details in the app or dashboard
- Delete customer records you created
- Turn optional website cookies off
- Request a copy or deletion of your account by contacting us
Camera permission is used only to scan barcodes. Notification permission is used for sale and stock alerts. Both can be refused; the rest of the till still works.
Children
Swipee is a business tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Pilot merchants may also be notified in the app or by email.
