Split a payment across methods
Take part of a sale in cash and the rest on mobile money or card, in one transaction.
Updated 21 August 2026
Customers rarely have the exact money in one form. A split payment lets one sale be settled with more than one method, and still be one record in your books.
Take a split payment
- 1Build the basket and tap Charge.
- 2Choose Split payment.
- 3Enter the amount for the first method and select it — for example $5.00 in cash.
- 4Swipee shows the remaining balance.
- 5Enter and select the method for the rest.
- 6Repeat until the remaining balance is zero.
The sale completes only when the whole amount is covered.
How it is recorded
The transaction is saved with method SPLIT, and the breakdown of each part is kept with it. In your transaction detail you can see exactly how much came in through each method — which is what you need when you reconcile cash in the drawer against mobile money in the wallet.
Common uses
- Customer pays what cash they have and puts the rest on mobile money.
- A group splits a bill between two people.
- A deposit was paid earlier in cash and the balance is settled today.
Cancel part-way
If the customer changes their mind before the balance reaches zero, back out of the payment screen. Nothing is recorded and the basket stays intact so you can charge it differently.
