Apply discounts and taxes

Discounts and taxes are configured once and then applied at the counter without arithmetic.

Set up a discount

   In the app, open Setup → Discounts.

   Choose Add discount.

   Name it the way you say it out loud — "Regular customer", "Damaged pack", "Month end".

   Choose the type:

   • Percentage — a share off the line or the basket, for example 10%.
   • Fixed amount — a set amount off, for example $1.00.

   Save.

Apply a discount at the counter

• To one line — tap the line in the cart, choose Discount, pick one.
• To the whole basket — open the cart summary and apply the discount there.

The cart summary always shows the discount on its own row so both you and the customer can see what came off.

Set up tax

   Open Setup → Taxes in the app, or Settings → Sales tax in the dashboard.

   Choose Add tax, name it, and enter the rate.

   Choose whether the tax is included in your item prices or added at checkout.

Getting this right matters. If your shelf prices already include the tax, choose included — otherwise Swipee will add it a second time.

Rates are stored on the shop account and shared by every till, so one device cannot quietly charge a different rate from another.

Order of calculation

Swipee works out the total in this order:

   Item prices multiplied by quantity → subtotal
2. 2
   Minus discounts → discounted subtotal
3. 3
   Plus or including tax → total

Good habits

• Keep the discount list short. Five discounts you use beat twenty you hunt through.
• Name discounts by reason, not by number — the reason shows up in your reports.
• A cashier needs a manager's approval for a discount above 20%.
• Review discounts monthly. They are the quietest way for margin to disappear.
