Apply discounts and taxes
Set up the discounts you give often and the taxes you must charge, then apply them in one tap.
Updated 21 August 2026
Discounts and taxes are configured once and then applied at the counter without arithmetic.
Set up a discount
- 1In the app, open More → Discounts.
- 2Choose Add discount.
- 3Name it the way you say it out loud — "Regular customer", "Damaged pack", "Month end".
- 4Choose the type:
- Percentage — a share off the line or the basket, for example 10%.
- Fixed amount — a set amount off, for example $1.00.
- 5Save.
Apply a discount at the counter
- To one line — tap the line in the cart, choose Discount, pick one.
- To the whole basket — open the cart summary and apply the discount there.
The cart summary always shows the discount on its own row so both you and the customer can see what came off.
Set up tax
- 1Open More → Taxes.
- 2Choose Add tax, name it, and enter the rate.
- 3Choose whether the tax is included in your item prices or added at checkout.
Getting this right matters. If your shelf prices already include the tax, choose included — otherwise Swipee will add it a second time.
Order of calculation
Swipee works out the total in this order:
- 1Item prices multiplied by quantity → subtotal
- 2Minus discounts → discounted subtotal
- 3Plus or including tax → total
Good habits
- Keep the discount list short. Five discounts you use beat twenty you hunt through.
- Name discounts by reason, not by number — the reason shows up in your reports.
- Review discounts monthly. They are the quietest way for margin to disappear.
