Scan and manage barcodes

Barcodes make a busy counter fast and a stocktake bearable. Swipee scans with the phone camera — no dedicated scanner needed.

Where you can scan

Attach a barcode to an item

   Open the item or variation.

   Tap the barcode field, then the scan icon.

   Hold the pack steady until the code is captured.

   Save.

You can also type the digits by hand if the label is damaged.

Scanning tips

• Fill about half the frame with the barcode — too close will not focus.
• Avoid glare on shiny packs; tilt slightly instead of moving closer.
• In dim light, turn on the torch from the scanner screen.
• Curved packs scan better along the flattest part of the label.

One code, one line

Each barcode should point at exactly one sellable line. If you sell a single can and a six-pack, give the six-pack its own variation with the six-pack's own barcode — otherwise scanning one will sell the other.

Items without a barcode

Loose produce, home-made goods, and repacked stock usually have none. You have two options:

• Sell them from the Favourites tab so they are one tap away.
• Print your own codes and stick them on, then scan as normal.

The code is not recognised

If a scan returns nothing, the barcode is not attached to any item yet. Swipee offers to create the item there and then — a quick way to build the library while you unpack a delivery.
