Which phones work with Swipee

What your phone needs for the till, the scanner, and contactless card reading.

Updated 21 August 2026

Swipee is built to run on the phones merchants already own, not on hardware you have to buy.

An entry-level Android phone from the last few years handles a busy counter without trouble.

For contactless card reading

Tap-to-pay on the phone itself also needs:

  • NFC hardware. Check Settings → Connected devices on your phone for an NFC option. If there is none, the phone cannot read contactless cards — you can still take every other kind of payment.
  • NFC switched on.
  • A case that is not too thick. Thick or metal cases block the reader.

The NFC aerial is usually near the top of the back of the phone. Hold the card flat against that spot and keep it still.

Battery

A phone that dies at 4pm is a till that dies at 4pm. Keep a charger or a power bank at the counter — barcode scanning and screen brightness use more battery than ordinary phone use.

Working without a signal

The till keeps taking sales when the network drops and syncs them when it returns. See Working offline and syncing.

Tablets

Swipee runs on Android tablets and is comfortable on a fixed counter. A tablet without a rear camera cannot scan barcodes, so pair one with a phone if you scan often.
